Winter Wonderland in Downtown London, Ontario

With the holidays coming up, and winter in full effect, we decided to take a trip downtown to check out this year’s Winter Wonderland in our hometown of London, Ontario. Each year, the city decorates the downtown area with a gorgeous display of lights, and its focal point is the lovely Victoria Park. New this year (for us), Londoners are given access to the observatory deck on the twelfth floor of city hall, which overlooks the park and its beautiful lights. Upon finding out this information, we decided to finally make the trip over to see this year’s holiday display…

We were not disappointed! While there are always things to do in downtown London, this one is enjoyable for all ages. Check out our view of the city below:

After seeing views from the top of city hall, we decided to take a wintry, well-lit walk through Victoria park to see these lights up close.

Included in this winter wonderland is a free skating rink for the public (you can rent skates if you don’t have your own!) Additionally there is Santa’s Workshop and many unique lights displays to enjoy!

If you’re feeling the cold weather before you’ve completed your rounds, there is a William’s Cafe as well as a Starbucks on the edges of the park if you’d like to get a warm beverage. On this particular visit, we hadn’t eaten supper, and decided to make a trip to a London classic – Prince Albert’s Diner (located at the corner of Richmond and Albert Street – across the street from Victoria Park).

Having visited many times, and planning to visit many more, Prince Al’s is a great place to enjoy a quick diner meal. Quite kitschy, in the best way. There’s just something about their food that always has you wanting more. Check it out if you’re in the area – you won’t be disappointed!

Winter Wonderland in the park began on November 25th this year, and will go until December 31st with a New Year’s Eve Countdown in the park. The lights are on from 5pm – 11pm every day. If you’re interested in seeing the view from the city hall promenade, hours of opening can be found on their website.
