4th Annual Food Trucks on the Farm Event at Heeman’s

The first weekend of September brings along the desire to prep for fall: cooler weather, harvested crops, leaves changing colours, and in the case of this past weekend, Heeman’s 4th Annual Food Trucks on the Farm Event! Combine food trucks into any situation, and you know you’re likely going to have a fantastic time.

To give you a little bit of context, you can check out the official website about the event here. But let’s be honest, you’re just here to see photos of all of the delicious food that we had while at this event, and we don’t blame you! There were 5 food trucks available to choose from at the 4th Annual Food Trucks on the Farm event:

  • Bifana Boys
  • COCOville Food Truck
  • Donut Diva
  • Goodah Gastro Truck
  • Smokestacks Food Truck

…and we managed to eat at 4 of them! (Don’t act like you’re not impressed). So here we go: the food.

  1. COCOVille Food Truck
    Style of Food: Caribbean
    Price Range: $5 – $10
    Payment Options: Cash Only
COCOVille was Dan’s first food truck stop. It was a bit of a wait for the food, but understandably so, as the place was packed and the line was growing by the minute. He ordered the “Jamaican” ($10) and thought it was fantastic. The “Jamaican” consists of pulled jerk chicken, sweet island slaw (the purple stuff you see) and jerk aioli on a freshly grilled bun.IMG_20170911_195304_154
  2. Goodah Gastro Truck
Style of Food: Grilled Cheese Goodness
    Price Range: $5 – $10
Payment Options: Cash and Debit AvailableIMG_20170911_195348_045
The Goodah Gastro Truck was my (Alicia) first stop and, I mean, grilled cheese? YUP! Can’t resist. Once having taken your order in a fairly fast-moving line, you’re given a celebrity name they’ll shout out to the crowd for when your food is ready. IMG_20170911_195706_182I ordered the Popper ($7.50) and it was probably one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever. It consisted of  jalapeno blended with mascarpone & cream cheese, cheddar, and jack. It came out with a side of original flavoured potato chips. ALL THE CARBS! (No regrets).IMG_20170911_195429_458
  3. Smokestacks Food Truck
    Style of Food: Smokey BBQ
    Price Range: $5 – $10
    Payment Options: Cash Only
We were too excited and forgot to snap a photo of the food truck itself, but I managed to grab a snap before Dan demolished this chicken sandwich. It had lettuce, tomato, cheese and some kind of chipotle mayo on it with a grilled bun. Perfection.IMG_20170911_195621_595
  4. The Donut Diva Food Truck
    Style of Food: Fresh donuts!!
    Price Range: $5+
    Payment Options: Cash OnlyIMG_20170911_195505_457
Having never actually had fresh-out-the-oven mini donuts like these before, with a flavour selection this vast, we ended up asking for suggestions from the Donut Divas themselves. They suggested the chocolate banana so that is what we got, but I think for next time, the classic cinnamon and sugar flavour would be preferred. Regardless, super fresh and doughy in the best way. Pro Tip: Don’t be a fatty like me and pop fresh (freakin’ hot) donuts into your mouth the second you get them in your hot little hands. Your tastebuds will thank you. Some of mine lost feeling for the day after that. Worth it though? YUP.IMG_20170911_195540_882

After having stuffed ourselves with as much food as we could, we decided to walk it off by exploring Heeman’s beautiful greenhouses and garden.

The place was packed with customers, but for good reason. Heeman’s sells many diverse plants – both indoor and outdoor. In addition to plants, they were also offering their fall porch packages which consisted of mini bales of hay, stalks of corn, and all things to keep your front porch looking festive AF. They also had a bunch of gorgeous pumpkins and fall flowers to choose from.IMG_20170911_195826_894

Having been our first time at 1) a food truck event and 2) Heeman’s in general, this was a lot of fun and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Heeman’s is known for their strawberries during their summer season, but keep your eyes and ears open for the 5th Annual Food Trucks on the Farm announcement & event next September. It is definitely something you won’t want to miss if you’re near London, Ontario!
