When it comes to packing your carry-on bag for your upcoming trip, you need to be mindful of what you’re bringing to make the most of the limited amount of space you’re given. Assuming that you’re going on a trip that allows for you to bring 1 piece of luggage PLUS a carry-on bag and personal item, here’s a list of carry-on essentials to make your trip as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
- Travel Documents:
This one may be obvious, but make sure that you’ve packed all of your travel documents. This includes your passport, other ID, any visas, your travel itinerary, plane/train tickets/transfers, proof of hotel reservation, and anything else along those lines. Place these items in a secure but easily accessible location in your carry-on to avoid a stressful moment of a misplaced document.
- A pen:
A Rookie mistake made on our honeymoon was not bringing a pen with us on the plane. Before landing, you need to fill out the customs form to be allowed into the country – who knew? (Clearly, we didn’t think about that!) We ended up having to borrow from our aisle neighbour – luckily she took pity on us! Lesson learned – always be prepared and pack a pen (or two) in your carry-on!
- Disinfectant wipes/hand-sanitizer:
I don’t care what you say – plane or train arm rests/tables are freaking disgusting. They 100% are not cleaned thoroughly, if at all, between passengers, which means you’re now carrying around whatever the last person who sat in your seat had, plus anything picked up along the way. Gross, much? Pack a couple of disinfectant wipes in a Ziploc bag to keep in your carry-on to avoid the nastiness of public transportation.
- A Change of Clothes (including your bathing suit if you’re flying someplace tropical!):
Worst case scenario – the airline company loses your luggage. Now what? If you at least have a change of clothes and your bathing suit, you day isn’t completely ruined. You can at least drink your sorrows away at the swim-up bar! (Hah).
- Phone and/or Device charger:
Do we really need to explain? No charger + dead phone battery = not a good time. Especially if you’re relying on your device for directions or to take photos…
